Robert E. Sullivan Biography - Hirsch Roberts Weinstein LLP
ROBERT E. SULLIVAN - Retired Partner
Bob is an integral part of the history of this firm. He founded the firm that became known as Sullivan Weinstein & McQuay, PC, which contributed half of HRW's DNA. Bob's vision in founding SWM was to create a law firm that delivers the highest quality solutions at less than the usual expense. He also wanted to create a firm culture where lawyers could practice in an environment that allowed them maximum independence and freedom to grow personally as well as professionally. HRW has inherited Bob’s vision.
In an illustrious career that spanned five decades, Bob represented corporate, individual and institutional clients in a wide range of lawsuits, arbitrations and mediations.
Bob had a reputation for being a brilliant strategist and a formidable opponent, but always a gentleman. His talent shined in front of juries; he had the singular ability of making everyone in the courtroom like him. Bob developed and maintained an intensely loyal family of clients who valued him not just for his talents in adversarial situations, but also for his wise counsel in keeping them out of those situations in the first place.
Prior to founding Sullivan Weinstein & McQuay, Bob was a partner at the Boston law firms of Herrick & Smith and Palmer & Dodge. Bob earned his bachelors from Yale University, his juris doctor from Harvard Law School and an LLM in taxation from Boston University.
Bob retired from the practice of law in early 2008, but continues to serve as a source of inspiration for and a friend of the firm's lawyers.
